Once upon a time, when the
feeling of being a slug was hard upon me, I ventured forth
on foot with an eye towards (dare I say it) getting some exercise.
As fate would have it, I almost
literally ran into an acquaintance at the end of my driveway.
We checked each other out, and since she was feeling slug-like
as well, we figured we might as well walk together and keep
each other company.
Thus began a lasting friendship,
and the seeds of What's Afoot in Cloverdale were planted.
It's been three years now. We've progressed from 1 pound weights
to honkin' 3 pound weights (can 5 pounders be far off?), and
we're still going strong, poking our noses into anything and
everything we encounter on our foot travels through Cloverdale.
Over dinner at the Hacienda
Restaurant one evening, as we regaled our partners with
stories and observations from a recent walking date, we joked
about sharing our irreverent insights with the community at
large.
Voila! What's Afoot was born!

So who the heck are we you ask.
Good question.
I've lived in Cloverdale since 1991.
Big deal! Right? I moved into town back when there was still
a nice big thermometer on Cloverdale Boulevard. It was 117
degrees. I almost turned around and hightailed it back to
Santa Rosa.
In my lifetime I've sung a
lot of "sort of" country and western songs, sold
a lot of wine, coordinated a lot of workshops, stayed up all
night studying more times than I can count, answered a gazillion
phone calls, and someday soon I hope to build a lot of websites.
(I'm practicing here.) All of this of course makes me qualified
to give an opinion on anything and everything Cloverdalian.
Now my exercise partner is practically
a native having moved here in 1990. She is the first
person who pointed out to me that you can't buy a bra in Cloverdale.
Hmmm?
A competent organizer who
mastered her skills working for the Bureau of Land Management,
she keeps us on track, planning and scheduling our exercise
with passion. As a partner, she is ideal, capable of walking
uninvited into just about any establishment.
She's Mom to a beautiful blended
family, and the World's "Best Grandmother."
Her home and yard are immaculate and appropriately decorated
for every season, inspiring me to pick up my dirty clothes.
But wait! There's more. She
plays bridge, belongs to an investment club, owns a vineyard
in Potter Valley (okayher husband has something to do
with that too), cooks up a storm, entertains, and always,
always, always, has time to listen to me.
We're What's Afoot in
Cloverdale, and we hope you enjoy our pages!
